The Social and Economic History of the Roman Empire Volume I 2nd Edition

The Social & Economic History of the Roman Empire 1 - Michael Ivanovitch Rostovtzeff Reading Braudel has reminded me of this stunning book -- both granular in its analysis of material life, and with a narrative arc (the catastrophe of the 3rd cen. AD) that is simply stunning. Anyone interested in history or in the ancient world should read this book... even though Rostovtzeff's thesis may not be fully acceptable.

(You want to make sure NOT to buy the paperback, but the hardback -- which was reprinted in a cheap rpt. edition by Oxford.... The book is in two volumes)
