Accelerando - Charles Stross Crap.

That doesn't mean others won't like it -- this is the first book of this type I've ever read - the first 'fantasy'/Sci-fi book I've read since I was -- probably 12 or 13 -- so maybe I'm missing something.

Some of it was interesting - the premise -- but the characters are flat to the point of one-dimensionality; the writing is mediocre (imho) and juvenile -- the term "arrested development" came to mind more than once -- endless, endless, endless - the ludicrous entangling of all this phony legal/economics -- sword fights among avatars who otherwise are only supposed to exist as uploads --

gimme a break....

I've got a copy of Halting State -- and so will try that one -- but have to let the taste of this one wear off first...
