I will give it five-stars, but really intend four & a half.
This large, heavy, hardbound volume is the catalogue of a Poussin exhibit, and contains over 100 full plates of paintings AND drawings, accompanied by brief, scholarly, but very sober facing commentary by Pierre Rosenberg. The catalogue is preceded by several illustrated essays by various Poussin scholars. I barely registered the essays, which seem full of puff and overinterpretation, though I'm sure there are exceptions. But the bulk of the volume is very good - and has full scholarly and bibliographical apparatus. Moreover, there are a number of 'details' accompanying the full reproductions -- and these, of course, are just gorgeous.... Poussin's painting is gorgeous...
